We spend our whole lives asking the same question again and again; why did this happen to me? What did I do wrong? Why me?
As we grow up our society teaches us that we have to plan every single step in our life. From the early morning you start to plan how your day will go, likewise in the evening, before you go to bed, you work out what will you do the next day, and you keep doing this on a daily basis. That’s just for your day-to-day activities. Looking at a bigger scale, you plan your education, your career, you arrange for your marriage, your first child, you even think about which school will your child be enrolled in.
As you are totally lost in this process of shaping your life ahead, you forget about the Great planner. You forget about Allah. You forget that Allah had your whole life written before you were even born. He had your life planned for you before you even think about it. Allah has already inscribed your source of living, your share of health, your spouse, your date of death, everything you have imagined and have not imagined, because Allah is Al-Mudabbir. Allah organizes your life for you without even your notice, and He is the best organizer. Thus as you overlook the latter, the moment your life does not go as what you have planned you start to freak out. When you lose something dear to you; your health, someone you love, your job, your desired academic grade, you find yourself disoriented, sometimes depressed and pessimism starts to hover over. You only knew one plan, and when that becomes messed up, you feel that you got it all wrong and that you are completely lost in the middle of the road.
Most of us experience such distressing moments. However, although you might not like them, they are very precious; they might be the reason for getting you closer to Allah, yet still, they may be the reason why you stray away from Him. In this regard, it is extremely important to embrace these instances and make use of them rather than letting them flow away to no good.
So what options do one have when he experience such times, how can one avoid falling into negative reactions? To start with, you should know the meaning of the name of Allah Al-Razzaq, The Provider. So what does it mean for Allah to be the provider? As mentioned previously, Allah has your life planned for you, so as He planned your life, He also provided you with the needs for this life. Allah supplies you with food, drink, cloth, health, money, car, job, family, friends, and every aspect you could think about. Everything in your life is from Allah. He is the only one capable of providing and preventing; no one can take from you what Allah has written for you and no one can give you what Allah did not write for you.
One should have faith that everything that happens to him is from Allah and that He does not bring about except what is best for us. You must believe that Allah would never hurt you; everything that happens to you is for your own good, even if it is seems harsh for a while, you will later know its benefits; this is because Allah is Al-Hakim. Allah knows better than all of us; He knows best. He is the one who brought you to this life, so the least you need to do is know and believe that He can never wrong. If you live with this belief you will be able to pass all moments of hardships, not only so but you will live in ease and peace because you know that Allah is Al-Raqib, Allah is watching over you.
So how could this moment of hardship bring me closer to or apart from Allah? You have to know that everything happens for a reason, the good and the bad. Things do not go around randomly. Again Allah has planned your life for you, so definitely this plan has a lot of reasoning behind it. Your role is to see the latent message of each situation you witness. Many people when they face hardships in their lives they start wondering what did I do wrong so that Allah would put me in such hard situation? Why me? These sorts of questions come up during facing difficulties, you feel that you are the only one passing through a hardship and that no one can feel your sorrow.
However, it is crucial to be aware at this moment that it is not a must that Allah is punishing. Allah sometimes put his slaves through hard times to raise them on a spiritual level and to get them closer to Him. As we said the moments of hardships could bring you closer or apart from Allah. So if you accept this difficulty with sabr and you heartedly believe that Allah is Al-Razzaq, that no one can harm you without His acceptance, and that He knows what is the best for you, then you would have turned a hardship into a tool that elevates your imman and bring you closer to Him. Meaning that, Allah is just testing your imman. When life drifts us away from Allah, Allah sends us those hardships to bring us back to him. Allah may have put you through difficulties to erase your bad deeds, cause every time you are in pain or get hurt, you are being cleansed from your sins. Be thankful that Allah is calling you to Him and try to find His message in such times and utilize them wisely. And always remember that Allah knows best.
